

Prof. Dr. Abdeljelil Temimi holds degrees from the French National Archives, as well as from the Universities of Washington and Pittsburgh. He earned his doctorate from the University of Aix-en-Provence. Dr. Temimi served as a Professor at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Tunis, from which he has since retired. He is the founder and chairman of several committees and has made significant contributions to the academic community through numerous publications.

Prof. Dr. Abdulrahim Abu-Husayn worked at the American University of Beirut, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of History and Archaeology. He served as a member of the editorial board for various academic journals and additionally contributed to the field as a visiting professor at multiple universities.

Prof. Dr. Abdulkadir Özcan, who graduated from the Department of Arabic-Persian Philology and History of the Faculty of Letters of Istanbul University in 1972, was appointed as an assistant to the Department of History of Ottoman Institutions and Civilization in 1977 and completed his doctorate three years later. Dr. Özcan later held positions at the Atatürk Faculty of Education at Marmara University and in the Department of History at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, from which he has since retired. He currently serves as a faculty member at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University.

Prof. Dr. Abdülkerim Özaydın completed his undergraduate studies in the History Department of the Faculty of Letters at Istanbul University during the 1978-79 academic year. Following a brief tenure as a secondary education teacher, he was appointed as a research assistant in the Department of Medieval History at Istanbul University’s Faculty of Letters in 1981. He received his doctoral degree in 1983 for his dissertation titled “Sultan Muhammed Tapar Era Seljuk History.” Dr. Özaydın assumed the title of Assistant Professor in 1987 and was promoted to Associate Professor on October 3, 1988. He attained the title of Professor on May 25, 1995, and has been serving as the Head of the Department of Medieval History since 2005.

He obtained his undergraduate degree from the Department of Oriental Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Sarajevo. He subsequently completed his Master’s degree in National History at the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Belgrade. He earned his PhD in History from the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Sarajevo. Following this, he served as a professor of Arabic and Turkish languages at the Gazi Husrev Bey Madrasa for five years. He later advanced his career as a researcher at the Institute of Oriental Studies in Sarajevo, from which he ultimately retired as a scientific advisor.

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ağırakça graduated from the Istanbul Higher Islamic Institute and the History Department of Istanbul University. He then served as a research assistant in the Department of Medieval History within the Faculty of Letters at Istanbul University, where he later received his doctoral degree based on a thesis prepared in the same department. He was appointed Assistant Professor in 1987, promoted to Associate Professor in 1988, and attained the title of Professor in June 1996. He retired from the History Department of the Faculty of Letters at Istanbul University in 1999. Subsequently, Prof. Dr. Ağırakça held various administrative positions and returned to the Department of Medieval History a decade later. In February 2013, he was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Theological Sciences at Mardin Artuklu University. He still holds this position.

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Şair Şerif graduated from the Department of Islamic Culture and Civilization at Al-Azhar University, as well as from the Department of History at Saint Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje. He earned his doctorate in history from the Department of History at Saint Cyril and Methodius University. In 2000, he joined the faculty of the Macedonian National Institute of History at Saint Cyril and Methodius University. He received the title of Professor in 2006. He currently works at the same university.

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yaşar Ocak graduated from the Department of Ottoman Civilization and Institutions within the Faculty of Letters at Istanbul University in 1971. He obtained his PhD from the University of Strasbourg in 1978. He was appointed as an Associate Professor at Hacettepe University in 1983 and subsequently promoted to Professor at the same institution in 1988, from which he retired in 2013. Additionally, Prof. Dr. Ocak was a full member of the Société Asiatique in Paris from 1980 to 1990 and a member of the Turkish Historical Society from 1983 to 2002.

Prof. Dr. Ali Birinci graduated from the Faculty of Political Sciences, Department of Economics and Finance at Ankara University. He held positions at the General Directorate of Security and within the History Department of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Cumhuriyet University. He completed his doctoral degree in 1986 and commenced his tenure at the Police Academy in 1988. He became Associate Professor in 1993 and was promoted to Professor of Contemporary History in 2000. He also conducted professional studies in Paris. From 2002 to 2004, he gave lectures at Kyrgyzstan-Turkey Manas University. In 2008, he was appointed President of the Turkish Historical Society, a position he held until September 13, 2011.


Andrew Mango graduated from the English High School for Boys in Istanbul. Then he studied at the School of Oriental Studies in London. He obtained his doctorate from this institution in 1955, with his doctoral thesis focusing on Alexander the Great. In 1947, he joined the BBC External Broadcasting Department, which is now known as the BBC World Service, and served as the Director of BBC Turkish Broadcasting for 14 years, from 1958 to 1972. Following his retirement from the BBC in 1986, he dedicated himself to full-time research, writing, and consulting on Modern Turkey.

Prof. Dr. Bayram Kodaman graduated from the History Department of Ankara University, Faculty of Language, History, and Geography (DTCF), in 1960. He completed his doctoral studies at Aix-Marseilles University in France. In 1972, he commenced his tenure as a lecturer at Hacettepe University, where he received the titles of Associate Professor in 1976 and Professor in 1981. Prof. Dr. Kodaman served as the founding Dean of both the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Süleyman Demirel University. He held the position of Head of the History Department at this institution from 2000 to 2010. Additionally, he was a faculty member at Manas University in Kyrgyzstan from 2010 to 2013.

Dr. Bilal N. Şimşir graduated from the Political Department of the Faculty of Political Sciences at Ankara University in 1957. After working as a political history assistant at the same faculty for three years, he transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in March 1960. Throughout his career, he held various positions, including chief secretary, undersecretary, and consul general at multiple diplomatic missions abroad, as well as branch manager, department head, deputy general manager, and general manager for two terms at the central organization of the Ministry. Dr. Şimşir represented Turkey as an ambassador in several countries. He retired in 1998 after 41 years of public service, 38 of which were spent in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Prof. Dr. Carter Findley completed his higher education at Yale College. After continuing his education at Columbia and UCLA universities, he received his doctorate from Harvard University in 1969. Findley, who received the title of professor in 1987, has been a faculty member in the History Department of Ohio State University since 1971.

Prof. Dr. Cemal Kafadar completed his undergraduate education at Hamilton College, his MA and PhD at McGill University. Prof. Dr. Kafadar was a visiting professor at Koç University, École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, and Boğaziçi University. He worked at Princeton University between 1985-89. He has been a Professor in the History Department at Harvard University since 1990.

Prof. Dr. Dariusz Kołodziejczyk received his MA in 1986 and his PhD in 1990 from the University of Warsaw. He commenced his professional career as an assistant at the Institute of History of the University of Warsaw in 1988. Subsequently, he served as an Assistant Professor starting in 1991 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2003. Since 2003, he works as a Professor at the University of Warsaw.

Prof. Dr. Saparaliyev graduated from the History Faculty of the Kyrgyz State National University. He worked at the Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Soviet Socialist Republic, theAcademy of Sciences of the Soviet Union and the Kyrgyz National University. He held many administrative positions at the Kyrgyz National University and the Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University. Since 2011, he has been a professor at the History Department of the Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University. He has also been the Vice President of the Turkic Civilization Research and Application Center at the same university since October 2012.

Prof. Dr. Dragi Giorgiev graduated from the History Department of the Faculty of Philosophy at the St. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje and the Oriental Studies Department of the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Sarajevo. In 2004, he completed his doctorate at the History Department of the St. Cyril and Methodius University, becoming a doctor and then an associate professor. He became a professor in 2010. He has been working at the National History Institute in Skopje since 1989. Also, he has been the director of this institute since 2012.

Prof. Dr. Erdoğan Merçil graduated from the History Department of Istanbul University. He conducted research in Iran and the British Museum Oriental Department in his doctoral and associate professorship theses. Prof. Dr. Erdoğan Merçil was appointed Head of the Department of Medieval History in 1984 and became Head of the History Department in 1990. He resigned from both of his positions in 1994. He served as the Director of the History Research Center for a while. He retired from the Faculty of Letters of Istanbul University in 2005 due to age limit.

Prof. Dr. Evangelia Balta studied at the History Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She went to Paris (Paris I-Sorbonne, École Pratique des Hautes Études IV Section) for her postgraduate studies with a scholarship from the Alexandros S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation. She received her doctorate degree from there. She gave lectures at the Ionian University for the first two years after its establishment (1985-1987). She worked at the National Hellenic Research Foundation from 1987. Since 2011, she has been conducting a seminar on Karamanli Turkish Studies at the “Intensive Ottoman and Turkish Summer School”.

Prof. Dr. Faisal Abdulla Ahmed Alkanderi graduated from the History Department of Kuwait University. He completed his MA and PhD in Ottoman history at the University of Manchester, England. He has been working at Kuwait University since 1997. He has also been the Vice Dean of Student Affairs at the Faculty of Arts since 2012.

Prof. Dr. Feridun Emecen completed his doctoral studies at the Istanbul University Graduate School of Social Sciences from 1979 to 1985, with a dissertation focused on “The Manisa District in the 16th Century.” In addition to his numerous administrative responsibilities, he served as a full member of the Turkish Historical Society from 1995 to 2000. Currently, Prof. Dr. Emecen is a faculty member in the Department of History at the Faculty of Letters, Istanbul 29 Mayıs University.

Prof. Dr. Ferit Duka graduated from the Department of History and Geography at the University of Tirana. He pursued further studies in Ottoman History at universities in Ankara and Istanbul, and specialized in Historical Demography at the University of Graz. He worked as an archivist and, in 1979, joined the Institute of History at the Albanian Academy of Sciences as a researcher. Throughout his career, he has held significant positions, including Head of the Department of Medieval and Ottoman Studies, Vice President of the Institute of History, and Rector of the European University of Tirana. He is currently a faculty member at the European University of Tirana.

Prof. Dr. Feroz Ahmad received his BA in Medieval Islamic History from the University of Delhi. He then completed his MA at the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London in 1961. He received his PhD in 1966 with his thesis titled “The Union and Progress in Turkish Politics, 1908-1913.” In 1967, he began working as an Assistant Professor at the University of Massachusetts. He became an associate professor at this university in 1970 and a professor in 1978. He began working at Yeditepe University in 2005. In 2006, he was appointed Head of the Department of International Relations and Political Science, and then Head of the Department of History.

Prof. Dr. Feroze A. K. Yasamee studied at the Universities of Cambridge and London. He gave lecture at the University of Manchester between 1983 and 2011, as well as at the Universities of London, Leeds and Wisconsin. His undergraduate and graduate courses include 19th and 20th century Ottoman, Turkish, Middle Eastern and International History.

Prof. Dr. Fuad Abdulwahab Al-Shami completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Sana’a in Yemen. He also completed his master’s and doctorate degrees at the University of Sana’a. He has held administrative positions at institutions such as the National Archives Center and the Yemen Manuscripts Library. Prof. Dr. Al-Shami is a professor of Ottoman linguistics and also a researcher of Ottoman Archival Documents.

Assoc. Prof. Gavin D. Brockett commenced his academic career in 1990 upon graduating from the History Department at the University of Victoria. He completed his MA in the History Department at Simon Fraser University. He completed his PhD in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago. Since 2006, he has been a faculty member in the History Department at Wilfrid Laurier University, where he serves as the coordinator of the Muslim Studies Option.

Prof. Dr. Géza David graduated from the Departments of Turkology and English Philology at the Faculty of Letters of Loránd Eötvös University in 1973. In the same year, he was appointed assistant in the Department of Turkology at the university. He became Assistant Professor in 1980, Associate Professor in 1987, and Professor in 2000. He was the head of the department between 1993 and 1998. He has been the head of the department since 1999, and the director of the Institute of Oriental Studies since 2010.

Prof. Dr. Halil İnalcık commenced his higher education at the Ankara University Faculty of Languages, History, and Geography (DTCF) in 1935. Graduating in 1940, İnalcık was appointed as a scientific assistant to the Chair of Modern History (Yeni Çağ) upon the appreciation and recommendation of Fuad Köprülü. He earned his doctorate in 1942 and was subsequently appointed as an assistant to the Chair of Modern History (Yeni Çağ). In 1943, he became an Associate Professor with a thesis titled “The Ottoman Empire and the Crimean Khanate to the ‘Great Retreat’ from Vienna.” He was awarded a professorship in 1952. Following his tenure in Turkey, Prof. Dr. İnalcık spent several years in the United States before being invited in 1992 by Bilkent University Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Doğramacı to establish the History Department, which was intended to offer postgraduate studies in history.

One of the most important Ottoman historians of recent times, Heath W. Lowry was born on December 23, 1942, in Salem, Oregon. He served in Turkey as a peace volunteer between 1964 and 1966. Lowry obtained his undergraduate degree from Portland State University in 1968, followed by a master’s degree in 1970 and a doctorate from the University of California in 1977. That same year, he assumed the role of director at the American Scientific Research Center in Istanbul and also taught in the History Department at Boğaziçi University until late 1979. Between 1979 and 1982, he headed a team of international researchers focused on historical demography of the late Byzantine and early Ottoman eras at the Dumberton Oaks Center of Harvard University. In the 1990s, he worked at the Center for Ottoman and Modern Turkish Studies at Princeton University, and between 1994 and 1997, he also served as the head of the Department of Near Eastern Studies. Lowry has dedicated many years to the study of census records at the Ottoman Archives. He currently works as the general coordinator of Bahçeşehir University Ottoman and Turkish History Application and Research Center.

Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences and History Department of Ankara University, Faculty of Language History, and Geography (DTCF). He studied Slavistics and Orientalistics at the University of Vienna. He obtained his master’s degree at the University of Chicago under the mentorship of Professor Dr. Halil İnalcık. He received his doctorate from Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences with his thesis titled “Local Administrations After Tanzimat”. He has served as a guest lecturer at numerous international universities, where he conducted seminars and delivered conferences. He served as the Director of Topkapı Palace. He is currently a faculty member in the history department at Galatasaray University.

Professor Dr. İsmail Aka completed his undergraduate education in the Department of History at Ankara University. Following a period of teaching, he was appointed as an assistant in the Department of Medieval History within the same institution. He subsequently spent two years in Iran, followed by two months in Afghanistan. He earned his doctorate in 1971 and held positions in Germany and Austria. He later joined the History Department at Ege University, where he advanced to the role of Professor and Department Head before retiring in 2009.

Professor Dr. Jamil Hasanli completed his undergraduate studies in the History Department at Baku State University, where he also obtained both his master’s and doctoral degrees. He was appointed as a professor of Modern History in 1993. Dr. Hasanli served at Baku State University from 1985 to 1993. In 1993, he became an advisor to the President of Azerbaijan and served as a member of parliament from 2000 to 2010. He resumed his role as a professor at Baku State University from 1994 to 2011. Since 2011, he has been working at Khazar University in Baku.

Professor Dr. Jean-Louis Bacqué-Grammont graduated from the School of Oriental Languages. He furthered his education at several prestigious institutions, including the “Doctorat de 3e cycle” at Paris III University, the École Pratique des Hautes Études, and Sorbonne University. His professional experience encompasses roles as a researcher at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), a faculty member at the School of Oriental Languages, director of the French Institute of Anatolian Studies in Istanbul, and secretary general of the Société Asiatique in Paris.

Prof. Dr. Justin McCarthy holds a PhD in Near Eastern history from the University of California and a certificate in demography from Princeton University. He specializes in the social and demographic history of the modern Middle East, particularly the Ottoman Empire and Turkey. Prof. Dr. McCarthy currently serves as a senior researcher and professor at the University of Louisville.

Prof. Dr. Karjaubay Sartkojauli completed his undergraduate studies at the Mongolian National University and he completed his doctorate at the Leningrad Institute of Oriental Studies between 1985-1988. He has held various positions at the Mongolian Academy of Sciences over the years and became a member of the Parliament of the Republic of Mongolia. Since 2010, Prof. Dr. Sartkojauli has been the Director of the Scientific Research Center for Turkology and Altai Studies at L. N. Gumilev Eurasian National University.

Prof. Dr. Kazım Yaşar Kopraman completed his higher education at Ankara University DTCF History Department, Medieval History Chair. He worked at Ankara University DTCF History Department, Ankara University Graduate School of Social Sciences, Ankara University Turkish Revolution History Institute and Fırat University History Department. He worked as a member of the Ministry of National Education, Education and Training Board for 50 months between 1989-1994. He retired due to age limit in 2011 while he was a faculty member at Gazi University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, History Department, which he chaired for more than twenty years.

Prof. Dr. Machiel Kiel conducted numerous research trips to the Balkans between 1969 and 1990 to study Ottoman architecture. He studied at the University of Amsterdam in the Ottoman-Turkish Language and Literature and Art History Departments between 1976 and 1982, and completed his doctorate in 1983. He worked at the University of Utrecht between 1993 and 2003. Following 1998, he served as a visiting professor at several institutions, including Durham University, Harvard University, Moscow State University, and Istanbul University.

Prof. Dr. Maria Pia Pedani is a graduate of the University Ca’ Foscari of Venice, where she studied Foreign Languages and Literature, and the University of Trieste, where she focused on Humanities. She completed her PhD in History at the University of Szeged. She worked at the Venice State Archives for 20 years from 1979. In 1999, she was appointed Associate Professor in the Department of Asian and North African Studies at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.

Prof. Dr. Masami Arai graduated from the Department of Oriental Studies at the University of Tokyo, where he also completed both his MA and PhD. He served as an instructor in the Department of History at Osaka City University from 1984 to 1986, and hold the positions of Assistant Professor and Associate Professor at the same institution from 1986 to 1992. He worked in the Department of Western Asian Civilizations at Tokai University between 1992-95. In 1999, he was appointed as a professor and has since been a member of the Department of Turkic Studies at the University of Tokyo, where he has been employed since 1995.

Mr. Mehmet Genç completed his undergraduate education at Ankara University, Faculty of Political Sciences, Department of Finance and Economics in 1958. He has held positions at various institutions, including the Faculty of Economics at Istanbul University, the Institute of Turkish Economic History, the Department of History at Marmara University, the Department of Sociology at Istanbul University, and the Department of History at Bilgi University. Between 2006 and 2013, he taught MA and PhD courses in the Department of Sociology at Istanbul University, Faculty of Letters, and concurrently served as a faculty member in the Department of History at Istanbul Şehir University, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, from 2010 to 2013.

Prof. Dr. Mehmet İpşirli graduated from the Department of Ottoman Institutions and Civilization within the Department of History at Istanbul University. He completed his MA and PhD at the University of Edinburgh between 1971 and 1976. He started working as an assistant at the department he graduated from in 1976. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1982 and to Professor in 1988. In 1987, he became the founding head of the Department of Archiving at Istanbul University, a position he held until 1999. He has been a faculty member at the Department of History at Fatih University since 1999.

Prof. Dr. Mihai Maxim studied at the History Faculty of the University of Iaşi and at the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Baku. Then, he studied at the Turkish History Department of the Institute of Oriental Languages at the Lomosonov University in Moscow for four years. He came to Turkey to undertake his doctorate, where he became a student of Prof. Halil İnalcık. Throughout his career, he has held positions at Columbia University, the University of Venice, Istanbul University, Koç University, and Bilkent University. In addition to his responsibilities at the History Faculty of the University of Bucharest, he served as the Director of the Turkish Studies Center at the same institution.

Prof. Dr. Mohammed Mosa Algorainie received his BA from King Saud University, his MA from Ohio University, and his PhD in Modern History from King Saud University. He currently serves as a professor of history at King Faisal University.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Adnan Al-Bakhit completed both his undergraduate and graduate studies at the American University of Beirut, followed by his doctorate at the University of London. He commenced his academic career at the American University of Beirut and subsequently continued at the University of Jordan, where he has held the position of Professor since 1983. Throughout his career, Prof. Dr. Al-Bakhit has occupied numerous academic and administrative roles. He founded the Archives and Manuscripts Center at the University of Jordan in 1972, where he currently serves as director.

Prof. Dr. Mustafa Fayda graduated from the Faculty of Theology at Ankara University. In 1967, he began his academic career as an assistant in the Department of Islamic History at the Faculty of Theology at Ankara University. During this time, he conducted research for his doctoral thesis in Medina and he received his doctorate in 1972. In 1979, he was promoted to Associate Professor with his thesis entitled “Non-Muslims During the Time of Hz. Ömer.” In 1985, he was appointed Professor in the Department of Islamic History, Civilization, and Culture at the Faculty of Theology at M.U. Throughout his career, he also held various administrative positions and retired in 2010.

Prof. Dr. Mübahat Kütükoğlu completed her higher education in the History Department at Istanbul University. Following her graduation, she commenced her career as an assistant in the Department of Economic History at the same institution. After completing her doctorate in 1963, she started her associate professorship studies. She conducted researches at the British Archives in 1970-1971 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1972. In 1973, she began serving actively as an Associate Professor in the Department of Ottoman Institutions and Civilization at the Faculty of Letters. She was appointed Chair of the Department in 1977 and subsequently promoted to Professorship in 1979. In 1984, she was designated as the Director of the Center for Historical Research affiliated with the Faculty of Letters. She voluntarily retired in October 1998.

Prof. Dr. Mücteba İlgürel enrolled in the History Department of the Faculty of Letters at Istanbul University in 1959. He also enrolled in the Çapa Higher Teacher Education School and graduated from both schools. After graduating, he became an assistant at the History Department of the Faculty of Letters at Istanbul University in 1964-1965. He attained his doctoral degree in 1970 and was promoted to the rank of associate professor in 1977. In 1982, he completed the requirements for professorship. Subsequently, he was invited as the founding head of the History Department to the newly established Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Marmara University. Consequently, he assumed the position of Head of the History Department within the professorial cadre. In 2005, he assumed the directorship of the Marmara University Institute of Turkology Studies. He retired in 2006.

Prof. Dr. Nenad Moačanin studied history at the University of Zagreb and Oriental Studies at the University of Sarajevo. He earned his PhD from the University of Zagreb in 1990. He has conducted various research projects on Ottoman history and its legacy in the western Balkans. Since 2002, he has held the position of Professor at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences at the University of Zagreb. Additionally, since 2012, he has actively contributed to initiatives aimed at the revaluation and restoration of Ottoman cultural heritage in Croatia.

Prof. Dr. Nicolas Vatin studied at the École Normale Supérieure and the Institut National des Langues et Civilizations Orientales. He completed his doctorate at the University of Paris III under the supervision of M. Louis Bazin. He worked at the French Institute of Anatolian Studies. He has been a researcher at the CNSR since 1985. He is the director of the Institute of Arabic, Turkish and Islamic Studies at the Collège de France.

Prof. Dr. Pál Fodor studied at Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest. He has extensively worked at the Oriental Group of the Research Institute for Linguistics, which is affiliated with the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. His main research area is the history of the Ottoman Empire between the 14th and 17th centuries. Prof. Dr. Fodor has focused his studies on the history of the early empire, the social and military structure of the empire, and Ottoman-Hungarian political relations. He currently serves as the Director General of the Humanities Research Center of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and as the Director of the Institute of History within the same institution. Prof. Dr. Fodor has edited numerous publications and is also the editor-in-chief of the periodicals Történelmi Szemle and Hungarian Historical Review.

Prof. Dr. Peter Sluglett obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from King’s College, Cambridge, in 1966, and subsequently earned his PhD from Oxford University in 1972. He served as a lecturer at Durham University from 1974 to 1993. In 1994, he joined the Department of Middle Eastern History at the University of Utah. Since 2011, he has been a Professor at the University of Singapore.

Prof. Dr. Ramazan Şeşen completed his academic education and teaching studies at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. In 1989, he was appointed as Professor of Medieval History in the History Department of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Mimar Sinan University. He held the position of Head of the Medieval History Department from the time of his appointment until his retirement. Additionally, he assumed the role of Head of the History Department in 1995. He retired in 2004.

Professor Dr. Rhoads Murphey completed his undergraduate education at Columbia University. He then completed his master’s degree and his doctorate at the University of Chicago. In the academic year 1978-79, he taught Ottoman paleography and diplomacy at the University of Chicago. Following 1980, he held positions in the departments of Modern Middle Eastern History at Michigan State University, History and Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures at Columbia University, Ottoman History at Istanbul University, and Ottoman Studies at the University of Birmingham. He currently works at the University of Birmingham.

Prof. Dr. Abdulrahim Abu-Husayn is a faculty member at the American University of Beirut, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of History and Archaeology. He is a member of the editorial board of numerous periodicals. Prof. Dr. Abu-Husayn has also been a visiting professor at numerous universities.

Professor Dr. Suraiya Faroqhi completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Hamburg in 1962 and obtained her doctorate in Middle Eastern and Turkology Studies from the same institution in 1967. She worked at the Middle East Technical University; she received the titles of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor. Throughout her career, she has taught at numerous universities both in Turkey and abroad. Currently, she serves as a professor in the History Department at Bilgi University, where she also held the position of department head from 2010 to 2011.

Professor Dr. Suzuki Tadashi graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Tokyo. From 1972 to 1975, he served as a guest foreign researcher at Istanbul University. He obtained his doctorate from the University of Tokyo in 1982 and was appointed Associate Professor at the Institute of Oriental Culture Studies at the University of Tokyo in 1983. He ascended to the rank of Professor in 1991 and was designated an Honorary Professor in 2012. He conducts research on various topics in the field of Ottoman History.

Professor Dr. Şerif Mardin, a prominent Turkish sociologist and political scientist, graduated from the Department of Political Science at Stanford University and completed his postgraduate studies at Johns Hopkins University. He completed his doctorate at the Hoover Institute at Stanford University. Following 13 years of teaching at Ankara University, he was appointed the founding Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and Head of the Department of Sociology at Boğaziçi University. He subsequently served as the Head of the Center for Islamic Studies at the American University in Washington for approximately 13 years. He then returned to Sabancı University in Turkey. He was granted Emeritus status in 2011.

Professor Dr. Şükrü Hanioğlu completed his undergraduate education at Istanbul University in 1976 and obtained his doctorate from the same institution in 1981. He held the positions of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences at Istanbul University. Additionally, he has served as a visiting professor at Columbia University, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, and the University of Chicago. He has been working at the Department of Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University since 1994.

Professor Dr. Tuncer Baykara graduated from the History Department of the Faculty of Letters at Istanbul University in 1966. He completed his doctorate in the same department in 1971. In 1980, he received the title of Associate Professor from Hacettepe University, followed by the title of Professor from Ege University in 1987. He retired from Ege University in 2007 and from Uşak University in 2012.

Prof. Dr. Virginia Aksan completed her BA at Allegheny College, Meadville (while studying Turkish at the University of Princeton), and her MA and PhD at the University of Toronto. Prof. Dr. Virginia Aksan also studied for a Master of Library Science (MLS). Prof. Dr. Aksan currently works in the History Department at McMaster University.

Prof. Dr. Yakub Mahmudov graduated from the History Department of Baku State University in 1962. Over the years, he held various positions at the Azerbaijan Encyclopedia, including scientific editor, senior scientific editor, and director of the editorial departments for general history and Azerbaijani history. Additionally, he served as the assistant chief editor for scientific affairs of the encyclopedia, as well as chief instructor and associate professor at Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University. Furthermore, he held the roles of assistant dean and dean of the Faculty of History at Baku State University.
