Conferences entitled “The Culture of Coexistence from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic” was held in Austria

The inaugural meeting in Austria of the conference series titled “The Culture of Coexistence from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic,” organized by our institution for the Turkish diaspora, was held on May 24, 2025 and hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Vienna. The event commenced with opening remarks delivered by the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Vienna, HE Gürsel Dönmez, and the President of the Turkish Historical Society, Prof. Dr. Yüksel Özgen. Subsequently, lectures were presented by Prof. Dr. Haluk Selvi, member of the Scientific Board of the Turkish Historical Society, and Melek Dilşen Seymenoğlu, Head of Department at the Directorate General of Public Diplomacy and Strategic Communications of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the event, Prof. Dr. Yüksel Özgen, President of the Turkish Historical Society, presented the Turkish Ambassador to Vienna, HE Gürsel Dönmez, with a selection of the institution’s recent publications. In addition, Prof. Dr. Özgen paid a visit to the graves of Ottoman soldiers who were martyred during World War I and are interred at Vienna’s Central Cemetery. The following day, the conference continued in Salzburg, commencing with opening remarks by Prof. Dr. Yüksel Özgen and Mrs. Günay Babadoğan Ertan, Consul General of the Republic of Türkiye in Salzburg. On the same day, Prof. Dr. Özgen met with Prof. Erwin Schmidl from the Austrian National Defense Academy, with whom he held discussions on potential areas of cooperation in the field of military history.

The concluding session of the conference series held in Austria commenced on May 26, 2025, with opening remarks delivered by Prof. Dr. Yüksel Özgen, President of the Turkish Historical Society, and Ms. Asiye Nurcan İpekçi, Consul General of the Republic of Türkiye in Bregenz. The program continued with scholarly presentations by Prof. Dr. Haluk Selvi, member of the Scientific Board of the Turkish Historical Society, and Melek Dilşen Seymenoğlu, Head of Department at the Directorate General of Public Diplomacy and Strategic Communications of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
